About the Juror:
Mark Appling Fisher holds a B.M.Ed. in Music Education (1972) from the University of Missouri – St. Louis as well as an M.A. in Black and White Photography (1982) from Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri. In 1986 he received his state certification in Instructional Media Technology from the State of Missouri. He has taught for more than forty years in the areas of elementary and middle school music, high school video production, and college level black and white film, alternative process, toy/plastic camera usage, and digital photography in the St. Louis area.
Whether creating hand-colored work of Route 66 imagery reminiscent of 40’s era post cards, exploring digital portraiture of Carnival Chalk figurines, printing infrared black and white photos of “toy” camera images of small-town American life, or medium format imagery of “…the world without us…”, Mark Appling Fisher is always thinking about alternative approaches to the photographic medium. His first book, “Turn Left at the Blinking Light…” is a compilation of 120 digital photographs taken over a two year period, taken in small towns in Missouri and Illinois, and was released in June of 2014. Mark Appling Fisher’s photographic work is to be found in collections throughout the United States, and frequently exhibits in solo shows, invitationals, and juried events. His imagery currently is to be seen at OA Gallery in Kirkwood, Missouri, the Sheldon Galleries in St. Louis, Missouri, as well as a scheduled solo exhibit of new work at The Schmidt Art Center in Illinois in January 2018.
