Artist Ken Farris garners his inspiration for this exhibition from his enthusiasm for nature and the outdoors. Having grown up in the small town of Eldorado, Illinois, Ken harken's back to childhood memories shared with his Father of spending time boating and fishing at the Eldorado city reservoir, a lake that had retained most of its shoreline in a natural, pristine state. Together they enjoyed the beauty of many a setting sun on the lake. As a kid, growing up in this setting, it was easy for Ken to immerse himself in nature and appreciate the simple beauty of it all. His fondness for painting nature grew from these memories. Ken's memories of those long ago times have stayed with him and continue to fuel his love for the great outdoors.
Over the last few years, Ken has had a resurgence for painting outdoor scenes. As his Father instilled a deep love of nature to Ken, so does Ken now continue that legacy with his own son. Together they have explored Missouri locals such as Meramac Springs, Montauk State Park and Busch Wildlife Reserve. Many of the pieces shown in this exhibit are renderings of these fishing trips. Ken is currently planning a painting expedition to the mountains of New Mexico and is eagerly anticipating creating some beautiful paintings en plein air of the landscapes and wildlife in their natural setting.
