Juror's Statement:
The work that is entailed in organizing and mounting such an exhibit deserves a round of applause. I love the exhibition concept and have long been a fan of texture, pattern, and repetition. The artist participation was outstanding, with a good number of quality entries submitted. I tried to include a wide range of mediums and an inclusive interpretation of the exhibit’s premise. Choosing the artists for awards is always a difficult decision and at the end I always think there are many more that deserve recognition. It can be a vulnerable exercise to submit work for jurying, to put yourself out there for interaction. The dialogue, the interaction with fellow colleagues and the viewing public, as well as the opportunity to see your work out of the studio in a new context, can be nearly as informative as the making of the work. I strongly encourage all who submitted to the show to keep working and exhibiting. ~ Ken Anderson

About the Juror:
Ken Anderson is Professor of Art at the University of Missouri, St. Louis. He received his BFA from Washington University and his MFA from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. He has taught studio classes in painting and drawing as well as art history classes in African Art and the Arts of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas. As head of Painting, he was instrumental in establishing the BFA Degree Program at UM-St. Louis. Ken is an abstract painter, sculptor, and mixed media artist. His focus is on the abstract formal relationships that balance repetitive driven visual elements, like musical notes, into an improvisational assemblage. For over 30 years he has participated in exhibits that include a mixture of international expositions, national and international competitions, invitational exhibits, and solo and group shows at various venues including museums, universities and galleries. His artwork is included in over 70 public and corporate collections.
